Arlene Berg joined NYC Leadership Academy in 2005 as Facilitator/Coach. She had served as Mentor Principal since 1999 while also working at Teachers College, Columbia University; Principals’ Institute, Office of Leadership Development, The New York City Department of Education; and New Visions for Public Schools. From 1990 to 2004, Arlene served as Principal of Kingsbury School, PS 188, Queens. Her school achieved recognition as number one elementary school in New York City in student achievement data based on state and city test results.
Arlene demonstrates proven success as a coach, providing elementary school principals with support and professional development to improve their instructional leadership and develop learning communities to achieve and sustain high performance. Arlene’s coaching is informed by ongoing professional development, with her focus on teacher effectiveness; use of data and accountability measures; standards-based instruction; and building school capacity.
Her education includes Professional Certificate, Administration and Supervision, Lehman College; and MS, Sociology and Education, Queens College.
