NYC Leadership Academy has worked with a variety of districts to build principal supervisors’ capacity to support and develop effective principals and to manage school leader performance.
We are experts in how adults learn - our staff is comprised of practitioners who draw upon their deep experience to help educators become more effective while understanding the role and day-to-day demands of school and district leadership. Leadership Dimensions of a Principal Supervisor
We believe that seven leadership dimensions undergird the most essential elements of principal supervision - with building instructional leadership capacity at the core - and we will customize services and learning experiences to meet your needs.
For districts redefining the principal supervisor role and thinking about expanding their principal supervisor cadre, we can assist you in reconceptualizing the role, defining the skills and experiences necessary to fill the role, and designing a competency-based selection process.
We also provide a range of development and support for both new and already serving principal supervisors, including executive coaching and direct training designed to build key supervisory skills – such as observations and feedback. Our staff can also work side-by-side with principal supervisors and other central office staff to build their instructional capacity, including how to design relevant professional development for school leaders and how to effectively facilitate adult learning.
Our Approach: The Three C's
1) Collaboration - Through collaboration with our experienced designers and facilitators, we work closely with you to develop and implement systemic leadership development services for your principal supervisors. In addition, advisory consulting is available for every aspect of the work related to implementation.
2) Customization - NYCLA works with you to create robust leadership development programs for current and aspiring principal supervisors tailored to your context and strategic goals. All of our work is grounded in leadership standards and mapped to local school system priorities.
3) Coaching - Coaching and support is provided to ensure full implementation of the work by your organization and to strengthen the programs we've developed collaboratively. Our goal is to ensure that your system builds the capacity to sustain this work.
