Luis Torres, principal of PS 55 in the South Bronx and graduate of the NYC Leadership Academy’s Aspiring Principals Program (APP), received an Outstanding Young Educator Award from the ASCD, an international education leadership organization, at its 66th Annual Conference and Exhibit Show. ASCD chose Torres as one of two recipients of this year’s award, which honors outstanding teachers and administrators under 40, because of his “passionate commitment to education excellence and leadership.” During his tenure, PS 55, which serves students in pre-kindergarten through fifth grade, has experienced a dramatic transformation as a result of his commitment to strong academics and community engagement.
