List of our Partners and Supporters

We are grateful to all the foundations that have provided support to the NYC Leadership Academy. As our main funder, the Partnership for New York City has made a major investment in establishing the Leadership Academy. The Partnership members’ generous support of the Leadership Academy has allowed us to prepare and support NYC principals dedicated to improving student academic achievement through better schools. Members of The Partnership for New York City who have supported our work include these companies and individuals.

Major Foundation support has come from:

The Wallace Foundation (http://www.wallacefoundation.org/) As a recognized authority on school leadership as a lever for transforming schools, the Wallace Foundation is a key partner. The Wallace Foundation helped start our Aspiring Principals Program, and has made ongoing investments in our coaching.

The Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation (http://www.gatesfoundation.org/) The Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation has supported Leadership Academy programs focused on principals serving new transfer schools, through the Transfer Schools Scholars Program . The objective of transfer schools is to serve over-age, under-credited and/or previously dropped-out students, by re-engaging them in their school communities and supporting their graduation and career goals.

The Broad Foundation (http://www.broadfoundation.org/) The Broad Foundation has provided us with major support for our New School Intensive program, and for external evaluations. We continue to work with the Broad Foundation on developing a leadership preparation program that specializes in preparing principals to lead new, small schools.

The Michael and Susan Dell Foundation (http://www.msdf.org/) The Michael and Susan Dell Foundation has generously provided the Leadership Academy with support for general operations and to conduct external evaluations.

The Ford Foundation (http://www.fordfound.org/) The Ford Foundation has supported projects led by graduates of the NYC Leadership Academy’s Aspiring Principals Program in schools throughout New York City. Using visual art and technology, these projects have involved collaborative work among artists, teachers and students in creating dialogues focused on appreciating and valuing cultural differences.

The Wachovia Foundation (http://www.wachovia.com/inside/page/0,,139_414_430,00.html) Since the founding of the Leadership Academy in 2003, Wachovia has provided support as part of their larger national effort to support teaching and leadership in schools.
