Dr. Francis Yasharian named AVP of Leadership Coaching

July 5, 2017

We are thrilled to announce the appointment of Dr. Francis Yasharian to the role of Associate Vice President of Leadership Coaching for the NYC Leadership Academy. An expert in personalized learning, adult development, and coaching, with a deep commitment to educational equity, Francis will continue his work to expand the Leadership Academy’s executive coaching and coach training programs and build upon strategies to best support school and system-level leaders across the country.

As a Harvard Ed.L.D. Resident, Francis facilitated the development of the Leadership Academy’s Coaching Competencies, which articulate the bodies of knowledge coaches must develop, and the behaviors, aptitudes, and dispositions they must demonstrate, to effectively support education leaders in leading successful organizations.

Since then, Francis developed and launched the Leadership Academy’s Executive Coaching model, a tailored one-on-one leadership development program for mid-to-upper-level district managers and senior system leaders. The approach is grounded in systems-thinking, supporting the executive in leading with an expansive mindset and developing the skills and perspective to manage increasing complexity. Common focus areas include continuous improvement of system, team, and self; mobilizing others, building coherence; and maximizing resources to advance equity.

“Francis has been an invaluable thought partner with an impressive drive toward innovation,” said Michelle Jarney, Vice President of Leadership Coaching. “I have no doubt that he will continue to push our coaching practice and offerings.”

Francis holds a Doctor of Education Leadership (EdLD) from Harvard’s Graduate School of Education and a Master’s in Teaching Bilingual Education from Georgetown University. Prior to joining NYCLA, he facilitated positive change in diverse learning environments over the course of thirteen years as a teacher and principal in traditional public and charter schools.
