NYCLA is excited to offer for the first time an advanced leadership coaching training for district and university coach practitioners, Deepening Leadership Coaching: Sustaining Growth and Achieving Results. Designed to help experienced school leadership coaches advance their practice, this 1.5-day session will focus on “Fostering Learning & Achieving Results,” one of the key dimensions of NYCLA’s newly revised Coach Competencies.

Participating coaches will develop a diverse set of new skills and strategies and learn from other leadership coaches who work in schools and systems across the country. In addition, the training will equip coaches with strategies to support school leaders to address issues of inequity in their schools. Participants will achieve these outcomes by engaging in role-playing activities that work to deepen their feedback and questioning skills and allow them to practice diagnosing principals’ learning needs according to proven standards.

Deepening Leadership Coaching builds on NYCLA’s proven Facilitative, Competency-Based (FCB) coaching model, which we have used to train hundreds of school leadership coaches around the country. Recent FCB workshop participant Jean Walker, Visiting Assistant Professor for Educational Leadership at Mercer University in Georgia, said, “At the end of the NYCLA coach training I feel that I’ve learned and will continue to put into practice a research-based coaching model that helps principals build their capacity to effectively lead their schools, support teachers, and increase student achievement.”

Participants in Deepening Leadership Coaching will:

  • Celebrate, support and push: Be able to balance challenge and support
  • Manage the multiple and simultaneous tensions inherent in coaching, recognize sticking points, and explore new possibilities to move past them
  • Use a diverse set of coaching strategies and tools, and be able to identify opportunities to extend learning outside of coaching sessions
  • Position coachees to sustain learning after coaching engagement ends

Deepening Leadership Coaching is now enrolling for the spring session, to be held March 13-14, 2017, at our offices in NYC. School leadership coaches with at least one year of coaching experience, or coaches who have attended NYCLA’s Facilitative, Competency-Based coach training I (FCB I), are welcome to attend.  Click here to learn more or contact us to register.
