In an op-ed featured in District Administration magazine, NYC Leadership Academy Senior Director of Strategic Communications and Policy, Jill Grossman and Director of Research, Evaluation and Impact, Nikki Nagler write about the importance of leadership coaching and support.

Citing research from their recent study Still in the Game, which found that school leaders who work with a leadership coach for at least three years stay in their jobs long and make real change, they propose several recommendations for district- and state-level educational leaders, including:

  • Provide leadership coaching as part of new principal induction.
  • Offer coaching beyond the first two years of the principalship.
  • Budget coaching into per-pupil expenditures.
  • Train and support leadership coaches.
