The NYC Leadership Academy (NYCLA) is the nation’s leading innovator for developing effective school leadership that transforms schools, inspires teachers, and improves outcomes for all students. We work to advance student achievement across the country by designing and implementing experiential, research-based training and support programs that build school leadership capacity.
Aspiring Leaders Programs
No matter where you are in your career, NYCLA has a program to get you to the next level. We offer programs for aspiring principals, assistant principals and teacher leaders, as well as our innovative teaming model that brings leaders at different levels together. Our programs have been replicated in districts across the country, and our consultants can help you tailor any of our pipeline programs to your district’s unique needs.
Current Leader Programs
Whether in their first year or their fifteenth, we know school leaders are always looking to improve their leadership and, by extension, their schools. Our facilitative, competency-based coaching model helps develop strong, independent leaders who can transform outcomes for students. Our trained coaches bring an incredible wealth of education experience, and can help you grow as a leader or help your district build its own coaching program.
NYCLA's signature Facilitative, Competency-Based (FCB) Coaching model is grounded in proven behavior-based standards and shown to increase leadership performance. Our coaches support leaders in making changes in instructional quality and organizational capacity at the school and district levels to drive change that impacts students. And our consulting team has trained and supported school leadership coaches across the country.
District Leader Programs
Strong school leaders need strong leaders themselves. NYCLA offers consulting services to develop and enhance principal supervisor programs. With principal supervisors working smarter, your principals will be better able to focus on the task at hand: improving student achievement.
NYCLA's newly released Equity Sims engage educational leaders in reflection and decision-making through interactive, video-based scenarios related to issues of equity in schools. The sims are designed to ignite a conversation on racial equity among participants who can then apply what they have learned to their leadership. The sims are intended to furnish examples of common, everyday occurrences in schools that affect student equity and access. Participants must make a number of leadership decisions, deal with the consequences of their decision-making, and reflect on the choices they have made
