Equity walks are a process of classroom observation, data collection, and debrief by district leaders that supervise principals and the relevant principal. They help principal supervisors calibrate and improve the practice of principals as equity leaders. Our Equity Walk Protocol provides a common approach for classroom observations and a structure for principal supervisors to gather low-inference data, generate questions for the principal and think about next steps for the school community.

The Protocol includes reflection questions, checklists, and examples of classroom evidence, including observable teacher/student behaviors and classroom content and environments. A one-hour virtual consult with an experienced NYCLA facilitator is included.
