Clear, actionable, and research-based leadership standards set the foundation for any sound professional learning opportunity for education leaders. They outline the skills, knowledge, and mindset that research has found are essential for school and school system leaders to effectively lead and transform schools.
The NYC Leadership Academy’s leadership performance standards outline a set of explicit behaviors organized along a continuum (meeting, approaching, or not meeting standards) for multiple levels of leaders, from assistant principals to principals to principal supervisors. We work with school systems to adapt our proven standards to fit their specific context and align with existing state and local standards.
Our standards development process includes:
- Facilitated working sessions with district stakeholders to develop an initial draft of leadership standards
- Documentation, development, and revisions of the standards frameworks and associated rubrics
- Facilitating focus groups of key stakeholders and target users to gather feedback on the draft standards frameworks
- Recommendations and consulting support for communicating roll-out and for implementation of the new standards framework
We have partnered with dozens of school systems on this process, including Minneapolis, the Sandhills region of North Carolina, and for statewide programs in Delaware, Arizona, and Massachusetts.
