A workshop series with four days of flexible content delivered in your district or system that builds the capacity of district/network and school leaders to identify, confront and address the inequities in our schools.
The foundation for this program is the six leadership dispositions that we believe are required to lead for equity:
- Reflect on personal assumptions, beliefs and behaviors.
- Publicly model a personal belief system that is student-centered and grounded in equity.
- Act with cultural competence and responsiveness in interactions, decision-making and practice.
- Purposefully build the capacity of others to identify and disrupt inequities in the school.
- Confront and alter institutional biases of student marginalization, deficit-based schooling, and low expectations associated with minoritized populations.
- Create and alter systems and structures to promote equity with a focus on minoritized populations.
In addition to exploring these dispositions and learning how they can be operationalized, participants will build and practice equity-based vocabulary; review the role of implicit bias in their personal and professional life; identify where and how disproportionality appears in their own schools and classrooms; assess the current state of equity within their school community; and practice having race-based conversations.
These sessions will be led by master NYCLA facilitators with extensive experience facilitating adult learning about race and equity. Participants will utilize proprietary NYCLA resources, including our Equity Diagnostic, Equity Walk Protocol, and Equity Leadership Simulations.
